Nursery on a Budget

Let’s face it, babies are expensive. Seriously, how can such a small human cost so much mula? Between the diapers, toys and adorable clothes it can add up pretty fast, but having the cutest nursery doesn’t have to be pricey! All you thrifty mommas are going to love these great tips on making your nursery look incredible for an incredibly low price!

Less is more:

You don’t need to buy a ton of little knick knacks to decorate the nursery. Save money by using some items you already have. Use items around your home to add personal touches. Photos are great for bringing a little more of your family into the room, especially when they are far away. Take a quilt out from storage to place on the glider rocker to make the room feel cozy and welcoming, perfect for those night time cuddles too! If you have a stuffed toy or a meaningful item from when you were young place it on the shelf to display. You can even take little decorations you have around the house and put them in the room, that little figurine given to you by a loved one, place it on a high shelf, it will look so cute and won’t cost a thing!

Toys for Decor:

All those cute baby toys you have piling up are perfect to make a room look more fun. Place the toys in key places in the room. Large stuffed toys on the floor in the corner or try placing smaller toys, like cars, dolls and trains, that baby is too little for right now, on a shelf. You’ll have some cute decorations that they can play with in a few months or years.

Bonus tip: Have plenty of storage and shelves, you will need it as your baby grows and needs more things (and is gifted more and more clothes and toys!

Bargain Shop:

Clearance and sale sections at your favorite stores are the perfect way to not break the bank. You can score some cute items for a fraction of the original price. Always check clearance and sale sections when you shop. If you know what you want your nursery to look like start scanning for deals early on in your pregnancy, if you buy a few items here and there while they are on sale, it can save you from spending even more money all at once. Gently used stores are great for this as well, you can even find items that still have the tags on them if you are lucky! You can find some adorable decorations at gently used stores to complete a nursery! Remember don’t buy used crib, check out this Consumer Reports article for more items you shouldn’t buy used.

Online Shop:

You can find a ton of  deals and coupons online. Many stores offer online only deals that are a must use! Sign up for those email deals at your favorite stores too, they will most likely send you a discount code just for signing up.

Helpful hint: Search for some coupons online, you never know what deals you could miss.

Built for the Long Haul:

Buy items that will last. Find sturdier items that can withstand time. Buy furniture that will grow with your child, i.e. 4-in-1 convertible cribs. Having items that will grow with your child will save you in the long run. Buying a convertible crib will prevent you from buying all new beds with every step of your baby’s life. Buying full size dressers that will last your baby until they’re teens is also a great option. These items would be, without a doubt, a great investment for your little one in the long run.
