8 Safe Sleep Tips for Baby

8 Safe Sleep Tips for Baby

September is Baby Safety Month. We love our babies and want to make sure we can help you with ensuring a safe sleep environment. Many of today's crib safety standards and guidelines were initially developed and tested at Child Craft™ decades ago.

Here are 8 safe sleep tips for keeping your little one safe at home:

1. Babies should never sleep with parents in an adult bed. You may want your infant to never leave your side, but it is safest for them to sleep in their own crib at night. Babies that co-sleep are five more times more likely to die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

2. Create a safe sleep environment for your baby. Station your cribs away from objects that could endanger a child, such as ironing boards, lamps, or heaters.

3. Be aware of sleeping positions. All infants should be placed on their backs when put down for sleep to reduce the risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, also called SIDS.

4. Keep your crib away from windows with blinds. Prevent accidents by making sure your little one's crib is not near a window where blind cords are accessible.

5. Avoid extra things in your baby’s crib. Putting any extra items in your baby's crib such as blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals can be very unsafe.

6. Make sure your baby’s mattress fits properly inside the crib. Push the mattress to one side -- if you can fit two fingers between the mattress and the crib wall, the mattress is too small and should not be used!

7. Measure the gaps between crib slats. Crib slats should be 2 3/8 inches apart or less so your baby's head doesn't get stuck. Child Craft cribs pass all crib safety regulations for slat sizes to keep your precious little one safe during nap time.

Perfect sleeping temperature for baby's nursery room

8. Anywhere between 68-72 degrees is the perfect sleeping temperature. Keep your baby’s room at a moderate temperature and dress them in a way that they can't overheat. This also reduces the risk of SIDS.
